clevelandskyscrapers.com is a non-profit site providing images and information about architecture in Cleveland and northeast Ohio. The site was started in 1997 by owner/webmaster Shawn Hoefler on external webhosts Geocities and Tripod.com; the clevelandskyscrapers.com URL was secured in 2000. In 2014, the site was moved to a mobile-friendly format, with content being added and updated regularly.
About the owner
Shawn Hoefler is a native of Salem, Ohio and lives in the city of Cleveland. He has taken all photos on the site (unless otherwise noted). The site was created to provide an online resource for others interested in the rich architectural heritage of Cleveland and Northeast Ohio
In 2002, editors at Arcadia Publishing viewed clevelandskyscrapers.com and visited Cleveland for a walking tour with Shawn and subsequently signed a contract to publish a book. In November 2003, the 128-page "Cleveland's Downtown Architecture" was published, with approximately 7,000 copies sold as of December 2017.
In 2009, producers at Hudson Street Productions (a division of Viacom) contacted Shawn to use an image of the Cleveland skyline for a new sitcom. The photo was taken from the top floor of Rhodes Tower at Cleveland State University in April 2006. On June 16, 2010, Hot in Cleveland aired its first episode on the TV Land network with Shawn's photo as the opening graphic.
The award-winning show starred Betty White, Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves and Wendie Malick. In September 2014, the show's 100th episode was released and entered syndication. Hot in Cleveland had an average audience of 2.4 million viewers per episode in six seasons, is licensed in 210 countries and syndicated in 96% of the United States.
